I Hope This is not the Last Good-Bye

You guys have probably noticed that we haven’t been updating our blog for a while. Melissa is pregnant with her No.3, and finishing up their new house. Morning sickness, all the chores comes with new home improvements and her two other toddlers has taken all her free time.

I realize that there’s too much on my plate too. I’m getting really busy with my photography business, my church calling is very demanding, my husband started to travelling a lot more for work, and my 2 year old no longer takes 3 hours naps. I have so much stuff to tell you guys, and so many good deals to share with you, but just can’t seem to find the time.

We have had so much fun writing this blog, and we love the friendship and support that was shared with us. We get so many emails saying how wonderful it is to have something refreshing to read about modest fashion everyday. Well, those words meant a lot to us, and we really do hope, we will find time to pick this up in the future when the right season comes.

Going Out of Town

Hey girls, I will be out of town for the next couple of weeks. We are leaving for L.A. tomorrow, then going to Washington D.C. from L.A., and finally hopefully make it to NYC. I’m super excited about my trip, because we haven’t been anywhere this whole summer, and let me tell you it is so hard with a toddler in Vegas in summer. I need to escape from the heat bad. I know it’s September already, but Vegas doesn’t seen like wanting to cool down.

I don’t think I will have easy access to internet, and therefore I won’t be able to have posts for a little while. Sorry guys, but this is a much needed vacation. I’ll let you know how my trips go, and hopefully I’ll find some awesome bargain treats for myself, hehe…

Who has problems communicating with their husbands about gifting? I know I do. Guys and girls are just from totally different worlds, and their brains are wired so differently compare to ours. I just recently saw this video on youtube and thought they have captured the essence beautifully and hilariously. If you have not already seen this, you are in for a treat!

On another note, my husband is turning 30 next Friday, I have no idea what I should get for him. Any suggestions? I don’t want to get sent to the doghouse.

From Wedding Photography to Marriage

I wrote this for my Through My Eyes Las Vegas photography blog, considering how little readers I get there, I decided to also publish it here. Enjoy!

Last week, I spent over 30hrs sitting in MGM Conference Center in Las Vegas for a photography convention, called Skip’s Summer School. Was it worth getting up at 6am, taking my son to baby sitter and rush to downtown, sitting in a room and listening to 2 hrs speeches at a time, and not getting home until 12am. Heck yeah!!

Not only I have gained so much knowledge on various subjects, more importantly it was the laughter and tears that were shared during the convention, and how watching strangers’ wedding photo slide brought back to me so much memory of my own wedding. I have never met those couples, yet I could relate to them so well just from the incredible wedding photos.

As I watched this NY city wedding video of this gorgeous couple (done by Maring Visuals), I couldn’t stop thinking about my sweet heart, and our wedding ceremony. All those feelings just gushed out from my heart like a flood.

I agree that romance slowly dies in marriage, especially after you have kids, or maybe we are just not doing it right. But I know I haven’t changed how I feel about my husband, it’s just hiding in my heart and getting dusty. How funny it was just by watching strangers’ wedding photo, it brought me right back to that moment and that spot.

I was standing there so nervously, but all I could see was my husband-to-be through my teary eyes, nothing else mattered. I remembered how lucky I thought I was to be able to spend the rest of my life with this sweet and insanely good looking guy, and how much hope and dedication I had to our marriage.

Those feelings slowly fades away through the daily mundane and other things we are trying to accomplish. It was really nice to have my memory refreshed, and remember what life really is about, and I consider that was the best part of this convention.

No kidding when people say a smart bride would spend less on everything else, but hire the best photographer she can afford. A good wedding photographer would make any tight budget weddings look beautiful. Through those photographs, it’s how you are going to remember your wedding, and how your children and grand-children know of your wedding.

When you are feeling down, having troubles in your marriage, or just simply wanting that first in love feeling, flip through your wedding photos, it might save your marriage down the road.

Our wedding photographer was decent, but I really wished that I had spent more money on my wedding photography to have every moment and every detail captured beautifully. That is probably the only regret I have for my wedding. I wouldn’t mind to hit the replay button every other month to relive in those moments.

If you haven’t looked through your wedding photos for a while, do it tonight. Everyone needs to get their memory refreshed; it will be good for you marriage.

Sephora Sample Review – Pore No More

I did finally get to try my dr. brandt Pore No More pore refiner sample last week. I was very impressed with how fast it was set on my face. This beige color cream just glides on my skin, makes my pores appear smaller, and took all the shine away from my face. Three Days of Shabby Apple – The Dress

I have been talking to Kate from Shabby Apple back and forth a few times about reviewing their preteen line, which was just launched at the beginning of this month. I was so excited that they were letting one of my friends try out and keep this cute GI Jane dress from their fall preteen line.

If you haven’t heard about Shabby Apple they are a Utah based womens clothing line. Their design is not just modest but also very trendy. It seems like someone finally put thoughts and heart into designing modest clothing. They started with women’s line, and expanded into maternity, children, and now preteen.

We received our beautiful packed GI Jane dress a couple weeks ago. I think just the tissue paper and the sticker has already sold on me this olive green dress.

Courtni is my little friend who accepted this invitation. She just turned 13 this year, and loves pretty dresses. We did a photo shoot with her on Saturday for this dress. Although we had to get up very early on Saturday morning to shoot, it didn’t stop us from having a great time. I wish this is my full time job, playing dress up and taking pictures.

One More Outfit With My New Banana Republic Belt

I love wearing dresses in the summer. It seriously cools me down 5 degrees. I bought this cute blue strappy dress from H&M for $10. I have been wearing this over a tee, which looked ok, but really hot (and I mean temperature wise), because the top of the dress is tight elastic and I’m wearing it over another shirt.

The other day, I thought I would wear this dress over my favorite Great Plain blouse, and I was soooooo hot, and thought I could not go through the day like this. So I pulled the blouse out of the dress, and buckled it with my skinny Banana Republic belt I just bought which I have blogged about here. And they looked so perfect together, checked it out. I love it, it’s so me.

The blouse has straps all through it, but light enough to compliment the prints on the dress. That skinny belt just tie everything together seamlessly. The best part is wearing them this way didn’t make me sweat all day.

I seriously love those belts I bought from Banana Republic last week; they are just so versatile. I wear this outfit to church on Sunday. I think the elastic belt down played the outfit perfectly, so it doesn’t look I’m going to a business meeting. A light jacket is perfect for the chilly a/c in our chapel.

Does This Outfit Work?

I got this dress from a boutique in L.A. last year. I was crazy about the crispy summer white, and the flowy silhouette. Problem was that the hemline barely made the modesty line, and it shrank after each time I washed it. This dress literally turned to a top. Besides wearing it as a cover up when I go swimming, it’s just been sitting in my closet for almost a year now.

I tried to layer with other stuff, but nothing looks right with it. Until, I got that cute brown belt from Banana Republic, I think I can actually make it work now .

My Recent Bargain Buys - Belt Collection Upgrade

I never really own any nice belts, out of the ten or fifteen belts that I did own, probably only one of them was leather and good quality. It’s not that I don’t prefer nice ones, but because my budge is under $20 for each belt, and I want one of each kind to go with different outfits.

Luckily since I was pregnant, the desire of wearing a belt has been very low, and it continued until not long ago when I saw that fold over belt look I blogged about here. I realize how outdated my belt collection is, and decided that I’m just going to put them away somewhere till they are back in fashion again.

So I was on the hunt for cute belts, and that’s when I bumped into the Banana Republic’s buy two sales items and get one for free sale, and they happen to have a ton of cute belts on sale. This is not a 30% off sale, nor 50% off sale. Let’s say that I paid 12% of what it would have cost retail. Each belt was $49 originally, and I paid for $7.99 + $8.99 for two of them and got the other one for free.

Can you beat that? Three belts; two leather, and one elastic with leather parts; different shades of brown, and countless potential. All for 18 bucks. This has to be my best bargain buy for the last few months. Love it!

So far, I have utilized two of them in my outfits. I have pictures, but that will have to be another post. I can’t wait till the cooler weather rolls in, so I can “belt up” my outfits everyday.

Sephora Skin Care Samples Review

My husband took some close up shots of me for my Clinique lip gloss post from last week. I was shocked at how bad my skin looked, my pores are as huge as the sponge, and my skin tone is so uneven, all the early signs of aged skin. Wow, it was bad, I almost had to call 911. I could not believe my eyes, how did I allow my skin to get to this stage, this is so sad.

I can’t believe I’m actually showing you guys this. This is the straight-out-of-camera photo. I hope you guys won’t be scared by this, it’s pretty bad. Of course, I had to retouch the crap at of it for my Clinique lip gloss post.

See what I mean?

It seemed like I gave up on taking care of my skin after I had my son. I used to get all the fancy stuff to try, and make sure I have a mask treatment every week, and went to spa to get facial done. I was young, with nicer skin anyway, but I did all I could to maintain it to its best potential. Once I started being a mom, everything on my face just started falling apart. But I wasn’t ready to let it stay this way, I want to have young looking skin as long as I can.

I did some research online, and narrowed down to a few things I want to try. I hurried to Sephora as soon as I could. I got samples of four different things to try. Sephora is so nice about giving samples, they will put whatever you want in a little pot for you to try. You can get at least a week’s worth of product to try.

These three products are Max Complexion Correction Pads from Peter Thomas Roth, Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask from Fresh, The Present Clear Makeup from Philosophy, and Pore No More Pore Refiner from Dr. Brandt.

Ok, so here it goes, the correction pads from PTR are amazing. I started seeing results after the first use, and each day just gets better and better. My pores are getting smaller and smaller, black heads are getting less and less, and skin tone started to even out. I mean this thing is unbelievable.

You will get this tingling sensation when you start using it, but it goes away pretty quick. The peachy smell is nice. This product actually does something. You can get them from Sephora for $36, and it contains 60 pads. I cut them in half, since I mainly just use it on my t-zone, this way I can get 4 months usage at of one jar’s pads. I definitely recommend this to everyone with complexion and large pore problems.

I also have been trying the black tea mask from Fresh, and I have to say that I’m not that impressed. I mean I like how it feels on my skin, but I don’t want to pay for $85 just to feel good on my skin for a few hours a week. For that kind of price, I want a product that does more, and does something more substantial. This isn’t it. I love the smell, and the ultra whipped texture, but that’s about it. Sorry Fresh, I’m not sold on this one.

Philosophy’s clear makeup is very different to everything I have used. I like the concept of using it alone as a moisturizer. I would do anything to reduce the number of steps I need to take to get ready in the morning. This stuff is like a thick white gel, you spread around your face. It feels great and makes your skin look great with less-visible pores and even skin tone, but you have to wait for a two full minutes before you start to apply your make up.

I forgot to wait all two minutes one morning, and put on my foundation, and it was a disaster. My foundation and the clear make up stuff got mixed together to a beige thick gel that stayed on top of your skin, not pleasing to look at. I had to take off all my make up and start over again.

With the combination of the correction pads and this clear makeup thing, I don’t even need to apply foundation anymore. My skin looks flawless with blush for some color and shimmer for some glow. This is a more natural look, which I love, because it’s my own skin without all the cover up . I now save my foundation for special occasions for extreme coverage.

Clear makeup, $25, moisturizer also doubled as foundation, saves money and saves time, what a great buy! Highly recommended.

I haven’t started using the pore refiner for Dr. Brandt yet, because I want to see what they can do individually. This pore refiner is more like a foundation base. I’ll probably wait till I’m done with the Philosophy’s clear makeup to start using the pore refiner. I’ll write another post to keep you guys updated. Help – Fold Over Belt

I was flipping through the Teen Vogue September 2009 issue the other day, and there were two looks both had this fold-over belt thing which I LOVE. Check them out.

I think the belt is the best element of the whole outfit for both these looks. The way they are wearing the belt makes it so much more interesting to look at. I want my belt to look like that so bad. Do you guys know how to fold over the belt to achieve this look, or do you think there are special belts there that actually suppose to look like that?

I tried to play around with my belt to create this look, but no success yet. And I don’t know it’s very good for belts to be folded in a knot; you can see the folded part creased up, like what my husband said, “way to ruin your belt!”, hehe…

My Boy’s Excellent Fashion Sense

Beauty Test – Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie

We were trying to find something to do that doesn’t involve the heat outside on Saturday, and we (I) decided to go to the mall. My husband does not like to go to the mall, because he knows it means we are going to spend money. I told myself we are just going to window shopping, but then I got sucked in buying another lip gloss that I don’t need.

I love lip glosses, and that’s why I probably have 10 of them just sitting around, but I always forget to use them, so they are just sitting there, kind of waste of money. However this one is different. I saw the ad in magazines, and they looked so healthy and delicious. I mean they certainly got the message crossed. Apparently this little wand is packed with Vitamin C and antioxidant that supposedly to make your lips look good and age slower.

Of course I had to try it at Nordstrom to see if it’s really that awesome. I tried on a coral color called Mango-thon, and a pink color called Pink Me Up. I Loved how the texture looked after I applied; it seriously smoothed my lips up, like I’m wearing a layer of plastic cover on my lips, but my lips look natural. It’s full of shine but not very sticky like some other lip glosses I have. The coverage is a lot stronger than normal lip gloss too. I’m not sure about the anti-aging part, but the amazing smoothing feature has definitely sold on me.

At the end I went to the mango one, because it suits my complexion better. Now I love, love it, and actually remember to apply it before I leave the house, I just hope that is going to last, hehe…

Twilight Fashion – Twilight Jacket

I know it’s way too early to think about jackets at this time of the year in Vegas, but I can’t help to falling in love with this jacket. Not only because that’s what Bella wear in the movie Twilight and getting cozy with Edward, I also love the color and all the handy pockets.

Don’t Do This to Me

I’m sitting in front of the computer, sweating. All the fans are on high, and I’m trying to calm my heard down, so I feel cooler, but I’m still sweating, like a pig.

My make up is all melted, there’s not a single outfit I can think of to make me feel cooler. My hair is all sticky, and I seriously can’t think of anything fashionable at this moment. This is the second day our air conditioning down. I can’t say that I’m coping with it very well. It makes me has no patient, no inspiration, and no motivation. I’m feeling very bad for my child who has to deal with me in this situation. I don’t know how people back in the days use to do it. We are so spoiled now.

Sitting in front of the computer sure doesn’t cool me down, in fact, I feel even hotter from the heat that is coming out from the PC.

Repair guy, please come to our house and have it fixed tomorrow. So I can be a good mother and wife again. Thank you!

Beauty Product I can’t Live Without – Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil

I have very very light brows that are barely there. I never knew how to make them look, crayon pencils make them look way too strong, and powers make them look flat. Until, a lady from Nordstrom recommended me Anastasia’s Perfect Brow Pencil.

You use one end pencil in smoothly, and then use the brush end magically lift the color on to your own brow hair. That’s what it seems like to me. It looks so natural, just like your own.

I have been using this brow pencil every single day for the last two and half years, and finally finished it, and I meant the last bit of it. I have never used any make up stuff to it’s end. This brow pencil certainly served me well.

I didn’t make it to the store for almost a week after this brow pencil died, I felt so naked the whole time. I didn’t even want to look at myself in the mirror. Now, I’m finally happy again, I have good looking, visible, face lifting, glowing eye brows again. YAY!

Oh, just so everyone knows, Nordstrom no longer carries Anastasia for some reason, which I don’t understand. Everyone loves her products. Now, you have to go to Sephora.

If you have been reading my posts, you probably know that I wanted a maxi dress so bad. Well, it took me a LONG time to find one I love, but I did find it.

Of course, I found this gorgeous dress in Nordstrom Rack, my favorite store. It was under $30, very well priced. I wear it with a white v-neck tee and Target T-strep sandals ($20), super cute.

I love this long dress, it’s so romantic and summery.

Wedding Rings

When I was getting married, one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning is choosing the ring. I like it when I enter the store, and everything is so sparkly and inviting. After a long battle in my head between different styles, I chose the simplest one. I felt like I was very connected to my ring, like she knows all about me, and knows exactly why I’m so in love with this man I’m about to marry.

It’s funny how these little shiny things play such a significant role in the wedding part. It’s the moment you put that special ring on each other, you are together forever officially.

I love my husband’s ring too, it’s different. He wanted a diamond on his, but if he wanted a more plain one, I would have chosen Platinum Rings like this from Tungsten Wedding Bands.

My husband got me a Bloomingdale’s gift card from his Amex points for Christmas, little did he knew there is only Bloomingdale’s Home store in Vegas. Summer Holiday

Girls (and boys), we are taking a little break (don't worry, just a couple of weeks). I have been so busy with church callings (girls camp), moving (like I have to be out of my house in 2 days), being an aunt for the first time ever! and just being a mom throughout all of this. I can't commit to writing posts right now. I won't have a computer for a couple of days and Emily is tied up as well.

We love you guys and I can't wait to get my life settled again so that I can write about all the cute modest clothes out there.

Best-selling author joins with 8,592 moms to host a Shop ‘Til You Drop Event

to thank retailers who provide age-appropriate, modest clothing for little girls.

State College, PA • June 1, 2009—It started with four moms in State College, Pennsylvania and it is about to stir up the nation. Led by best-selling author, Dannah Gresh who has sold over three quarter of a million books to teens and tweens, the women are taking the fashion industry to task and calling for fifty-thousand moms to join them. Suzy Weibel, Janet Mylin and Chizzy Anderson joined Gresh to release a series of fiction books aimed at sending healthy messages to tweens about their bodies, beauty and relationships. The authors are calling themselves The Bod Squad and calling for 50,000 mothers across the nation to join them. What is the Bod Squad?

“It’s a group of moms who are incensed with the fashion industries attempt to take our little girl’s childhood away,” says Gresh. “The messages our girls get from the fashion industry are destructive. We wanted to push back at that. We never expected the American Psychological Association to agree with our presumptions so powerfully.”

Gresh sites the findings of two years of study by an American Psychological Association (APA) task force on the sexualization of little girls. The APA task force’s report states that music lyrics, Internet content, video games and clothing are now being marketed to younger and younger girls. The smutty content of the marketing is linked to eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression. Ironically, this early sexualization presented to young girls has “negative consequences on girls’ ability to develop healthy sexuality.” In experiencing sexuality too soon, they actually lose their ability to experience it in a healthy way as adult women.

“And the fashion industry is, indeed, marketing sexual clothing to tweens,” says Gresh. “Just consider the fact that Time magazine reported sales of thong underwear to 7-12 year old girls in excess of $1.6 million in the year 2003. Someone has to stop the madness.”

Gresh has the ear of Women’s Wear Daily, the global “bible” of the fashion industry. Magazine writers have interviewed Gresh about fashion and tweens, citing their own concerns that maybe the fashion industry has gone to far. Gresh, Weibel, Mylin and Anderson—all mothers of girls— were the first to sign the 50,000-Mom Bod Squad Petition on October 1, 2008. Since then, a total of 8,593 have joined at the grassroots level. Now, the petition is going to a new level with national news and media support, with which it can gain the attention of the industry it hopes to shape. The Bod Squad’s request will be for the Council of Fashion Designers of America to read the findings of the APA report, and to tell the fashion industry that mothers want to purchase age-appropriate clothing for their girls and would like the fashion industry to evaluate the clothing they design and the messages they send to our daughters through advertising. Gresh hopes that industry media like Women’s Wear Daily will cover the presenting of the petition, creating industry awareness of both the APA task force findings and consumer desire.

“We don’t want to ban anything,” says Gresh. “We will stay positive. We are consumers who just want to express our concerns. In fact, this fall we’ll be sending a positive message by initiating a national Shop ‘Til You Drop Event to thank retailers who consistently provide age-appropriate and modest clothing for little girls up to age twelve.”

Gresh says that the signers of the petition will actually vote on which retailers they want to “thank.” After the vote, the Shop ‘Til You Drop Event will be publicized for others to join in on the fun.

Will four moms from State College, PA be able to bend the ear of the fashion industry?

“We have a great team in place,” says Gresh who says that in 2009, the fiction books and other resources that she’s created for tweens—to promote modesty, true beauty and healthy friendships— will take to the stage. The Secret Keeper Girl Tour event and modest fashion show will be in sixty cities nationwide. The Secret Keeper Girl fiction books are brought under Gresh’s successful first Secret Keeper Girl product, a kit that features interactive mother/daughter dates to discuss issues of beauty and fashion. Over 100,000 moms and daughters have completed those dates.

Fellow readers, how about making a change in this very unmodest fashion world? Well, our new friend Kelly is in charge of a new project. A positive petition to rescue little girls from the fashion industry. A.K.A. no more thongs for girls under 12. Seriously?! I was in awe when I heard that $1.6 million is spent annually on thong underwear for girls ages 7-12 (according to TIME Magazine).

Kelly wrote to Modestly Chic and said:

A new hobby??

Yes, I found a new hobby. Jewelry making. I find that it is quite easy to do with kids around, which is what I need at this moment. It doesn't require 5 trips just to get all the stuff out that you need from the closet, just 1 trip. The items are so small that it is easy to keep away from any "sticky fingers". Which by the way, my daughter had her first shop lifting encounter at Sea World. A shark tooth. Oh what am I to do?!

So, here is the pair of earrings that I just made for myself. Well, I might consider selling them, but I am still unsure. I can't part with them. I think I'll just have to make a duplicate pair.

Everything is sterling silver. The hoop is covered in swarovski crystals. The only thing is that I might make the chain a little shorter so that it doesn't hang down so low. What do you think? Oh, one more thing, my chipped finger nail polish is a big no-no. I know, I'm lazy!

My Tuesday Shopping Experience

I had to go to Nordstrom to return a dress I just bought yesterday. Since my son has been unbelievably patient with me, and did not try to escape, open/close dressing room door, throwing all the clothes on the floor, nor cry. I decided to walk around, and check out a few other stores.

I was so disappointed with Forever21. I can usually find a few things I like there, but I had no luck yesterday. All the skirts and dresses are super short.

Why don’t they make all the fun pieces with a little extra length? Errrrr…. I would love wearing some airy, fun and easy for the summer.

Then I went to MANGO. I haven’t been to that store for a long time. They had the cutest stuff, and a few dresses at knee length.

My favorite one looks like this, but has long sleeves, smaller neckline and the hem lines are way lower, and it is in a blue pattern jersey. I couldn’t find a picture online. It felt so nice on, so smooth and airy.

Only thing is that I don’t remember the price tag at MANGO was this much. I really don’t want to pay for 70 dollars for a dress. I need to get a job, I guess.

My Trip

San Francisco smelled like Sydney, Australian, and Seattle smelled like Christmas. I had a great time seeing these two beautiful cities. I took so many pictures, hoping that I have captured some beauties in them.

Thank you Mikaela for the suggestions, I certainly have enjoyed Pike’s Market. I wish we have something like that in Vegas, I think I would be there every single day.

Plaid Shirts

Okay okay, I admit, I am officially in love with plaid shirts at this moment (although I do not own any). You can get them anywhere: Forever21, Delias, and Tilly's to name a few.

Maybe I love them more because they all pretty much come with sleeves, long or short, which makes them modest. I think that modest fashion needs to have options. What fun is fashion if you are limited? With these plaid shirts, I have been eyeballing complete strangers with all body types and have not found one wear this particular style does not work. Large or small, they work.

Chirp Chirp...

So I said that I would post photos of my big sis' baby shower. It turned out to be a huge success. The cupcakes especially (recipes came from a book that I picked up last minute at Target). They were sooo delicious that I couldn't stop eating them for days. Now I suffer from eating too many sweets in such a short period of time. :(

I am just happy to say that I am alive and I survived hosting it! It was a blast, next time I will allow myself more time in planning. Enjoy the pictures, if any questions, just ask!

Beauty Test – Essie Nail Polish

I love nail polish. I can stare at my freshly painted nails forever. Only thing is that most nail polish comes off right away after a day. I have used both cheap ones and expensive ones, and I was pretty pleased with O. P. I. It lasts a couple of days, and the colors are beautiful.

Then I bought Essie online because it was the only nail polish they offered in that store, and I had to get something to qualify for free shipping.

Man, I didn’t realize how much I have been missing out until those beautiful colors arrived to my door. They are SO easy to apply, and dries pretty fast, and they last for 5 days beautifully. I got a matt watermelon color and a Barbie shimmer pink, which I love both.

(I love the watermelon red on my toes.)

And then one day I felt really brave, and bought this crazy neon purple. It dries SUPER fast. The finish is really weird, like frosted from the freezer.

But once you apply a top coat, it’s super glossy. I love love this eggplant color, and I can stare at them for 5 days without reapplying.

I’m not sure if you could tell the difference. You will just have to try them on. It’s very interesting. Essie is definitely the best nail polish I have used.

The Best 15 Dollars I Have Ever Spent

I had to go to Target last night with my parents to get some stuff for my dad. Because I had a few people there with me to watch my son Tyler, I decided to go through the sales rack and see if there’s any deals that I just can’t miss.

I ended up trying a few things, and I fell in love with the last item I tried on. It was the dressy tee I have been dreaming about for a long time.

It’s shiny and drapey. It hides my fat, shows my curve and very loose on me. I hate clothes that stick on me so tight in summer. And guess what? There were $4.88 each, so I bought three in different colors.

I can serious think of 10 outfits I could complete with these dressy tees right away. It goes with anything dressy, pencil skirt, or layer under a dress, the options are endless. So I decided to show you a few, one in each color.

I love the draping detail of the neckline. Only thing you need to be careful is that if you have a toddler who like to pull your shirt down all the time, you will need some cover up. It’s super stretchy, so it reveals quite a bit. I just put on a sports bra under to cover some skin in case of accidents.

There were plenty there at Target when I looked last night. So hurry up! It can’t get better than $5 each for a cute modest dressy tee.

Fashion Adventure – Tapered Denim

I always admire people who have the courage to experience different things in fashion. They put “weird” looking stuff together to look like art, maybe not the girl-next-door type conventional fashion, but fashion in their own sense.

Street styles from blogs like the LookBook, EasyFashion, and The Sartorialist are such a mind refresher to me. I love how the people from the big cities are just into their own style, they don’t really care what other people think about it, they don’t care what the current trend is, and they are so unpredictable. Just go with their creativity, and embrace it to the full extent. Just have fun with it.

Some people might think they look clownish, but if you keep an open mind, you might be able to find some form of art from it too.

Well, I decided to explore my fashion adventure a little bit by buying this crazy tapered denim from Forever 21.

I know my co-writer said “What’s in your bum?” and my husband said “Please return it tomorrow!” when they saw me wearing these. But I actually love these pants, maybe I’m just so used to looking at people dressing “weirdly” in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Sydney. So, I’m saving this crazy pants for the days I feel a little more adventurous.

Now I kind of want to move to a big city, so I can’t get away with wearing crazy stuff. I would totally love my husband to dress more spontaneous.

My Recent Bargain Buy – Sailor Pants

What says summer more than white sailor pants? I found these babies at Nordstrom B.P. department. I got them for full price, $38, including free hemming. Not bad, eh?

It comes in three different colors, white, black and navy. I think I got the perfect navy color top for these cuties, and they are perfect for my trips to San Francisco and Seattle this week. Awesome!

Anyone has any insight of what to see and where to shop in these two beautiful cities? It will be my first time ever.

I am throwing my sis a baby shower, and of course I want it to be above and beyond. I seriously had the hardest time deciding what I wanted it to look like because I found so many cute and clever ideas through my internet searching. This is why I have been non-existent. I'm surprised Emily hasn't killed me yet! Thanks Em, for being my friend still. So I am writing to you guys today to tell you that I have been super swamped with not only the shower, but being out of town and sick kids.

Sorry fellow readers/followers. I want you all to know that I love co-writing this blog with Emily. I really do, I promise!!! I was suppose to write a post for Friday (technically today, it's 11:40 p.m.), but I completely forgot! Ughh, I'm still trying to do everything and it's not working! Annoying. But on to more pressing matters.

Kohl's has changed the "face" of their Candie's line. Britney Spears! This is a huge shocker to me.

I have to say that I am sort of bummed. I love love loved Hayden Penettiere. I love her in Heroes and just think that she totally has the "girl next door" look. See...

...she totally does. Right? And she is so much hotter than Britney, well that's just my opinion.

Not only that, but her choice of clothes seems like they are a bit more modest than Britney Spears. What do you think, really, does Hayden portray a more modest appearance rather than Britney? I seriously want to know your thoughts on this. This might be a fencer issue. And I am laughing at myself right now because it's pretty much midnight, and I write this with a torn heart. I am sincerely bummed after finding this out just now. I had to write to you guys. Maybe you can enlighten me on Britney and her "appearance". Hi, I’m back with more gold jewelry. Like what I have told you in the last post, I have been on a crazy hunt for gold jewelry. I have been wanting a gold men’s wear watch for a while, but I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it.

When I was at the trade show, my goal was to find a gold watch. Well, it didn’t take long with hundreds and hundreds of watches to choose from, I found this love. For the same reason of the Indian bangle set from my last post, I’m not going to disclose the price on this watch. I love this watch so much. It’s effortlessly chic. What do you think?

Never Say Never – Gold Jewelry

I remember the days I hated gold jewelry and swore that I would never wear them. I thought they were ugly and HIDEOUS. I was happy to stick with my silver and white gold.

While my love for silver and white gold did not fade away, I started feeling less hatred towards gold jewelry. I started feeling that they looked good on certain people, but of course not me. Then I started having the thought that maybe I could put one on just to see how they look on me. And then I bought my first piece of gold jewelry, and then second. And then I started wearing them everyday.

Now I’m CRAZY about gold jewelry, and I have to say they almost replaced all my old favorites silver and white gold jewelry. I wanted to show you guys some of my recent purchases.

Let me start with bangles. This Indian bangle set is from a trade show (the advantage of living in Vegas is being able to attend trade shows and get stuff for wholesale price).

I will not disclose the price, it will be unfair to the retailers otherwise. The vendor told me they usually go for $100 in stores, I don’t know how much of that is true. The quality is pretty good, and I love the color scheme, and the mixed textures. Don’t you just love the exotic look?

I ordered these Amrita Singh ones from Ideeli for $18. The different designs of the bangles keep them very interesting to look at. However I have to say that I was quite disappointed with them. The crystal stones started coming off one by one, and I think I have already lost four by now. I’m not sure if it’s just me, and got the bad batch or they are just poor in quality. Now, let’s move on to earrings. I got these Nina Nyugen Onyx Crystal Filigree Dangle Earrings for $25 from Haute Look, originally $59. My ears are very sensitive with metal, but these are 14K gold plated, so they don’t irritate me at all.

These Danielle Stevens earrings are also from Haute look. They are $38 down to $18, and i love them so much. I wear them anytime I have my hair down. I love the look of the gold, and the clear peeks through my dark hair.

It’s funny what fashion trends do to you. Just be careful, never say never on any trends. You might be laughing at it now and embracing it someday.

I have to admit that I was just a teen when the ever so popular movie "Clueless" came out on the big screen. While internet surfing I came across a blog called Cupcakes and Cashmere that is very clever. Super organized, fashion, things that she loves, I just love it. She posted about an app that is out on the iphone or itouch that is very similar to the app that is in the movie Clueless.

You can take pictures of your clothes and shoes and they will be organized in the Closet app. You can then chose what you want to wear on your iphone. So cool! Now, I just need to tell my husband that I need, no MUST HAVE an iphone AND those Frye shoes I've had my eye on for Mother's Day. I don't think he's going to go for that, but I can try!

Aldo Shoes

Just a quick post for our fellow followers. I've never owned a pair of Aldo shoes until I went into the Aldo Accessories store in San Francisco. They had a variety of flats that could be dressed up and dressed down (my "fancy casual"). I am growing more fond of them as time goes by. I love the styles they have now. Their shoes are so versatile. Here are some that I absolutely love right now.

p.s. I've been wearing more flats lately since it's hard to wear heels all day with kids. So, I think I'm leaning more on the comfortable side lately with shoes. Any suggestions on what you all like to wear everyday? Not something that you would only wear for a few hours due to the unnatural way the shoe hurts your feet, but something that may be a little more dressy than flats. I'd love to hear your comments.

Favorite Finds from Anthropologie

I don't go into Anthropologie much but when I was in San Francisco my girlfriends wanted to go. I am so glad I did because I found my new favorite v-neck tank undershirts. The v-neck line is modest and the material/fabric is the best for wearing under shirts. Plus, they are reversible so you can use the crew neck line if you chose.

Reversible Seamless Tank $24 comes in coral, mint, yellow, black, chocolate, cream, dark grey and white.

I also bought this tank in white. I love it too, but not as much as the reversible seamless tank. This only comes in black or white.

I love this one also, only on internet.

I seriously am in love with all of these. I know summer is creeping up on us and we won't want to layer, but a nice quality under tee is always a must.

San Francisco Treasure

You know the phrase "bringing sexy back", well Joan O'Connor from Timeless Treasures is definitely "bringing vintage back"!

I just returned from a girls trip to San Fran. It was a blast but I am glad to be back. My friend kept telling me that she wanted to go to a store called Timeless Treasures. I decided to go with her and this is what I ended up buying.

It's definitely personal, and a lot of the big time pros are shopping here (i.e. Pottery Barn, Anthropolgie). This is not how I am leaving the letters. I just laid them all out so that you could see what I got. When I have them on my wall I will show you an updated photo.

The owner, Joan O'Connor, was there. She was so sweet and very easy to talk too. She gave me a history run down on where my letters came from which was so cool. For example, the "r" came from an old school freeway sign in New York. I just loved hearing the history of the letters since I feel we don't get much history here in Vegas.

If you click on the Timeless Treasures it will direct you to her blog. She has pictures of how Pottery Barn used her stuff for their catalog photo shoots (stuff you can't buy from PB people) plus so much more! I am a lifetime fan of this vintage store!

Modest Fashion Mission – Maxi Dress

I have been wanting a Maxi dress since last summer. They are so romantic and free spirited, it’s the perfect look for summer. As they are getting more and more popular this year, my search for the modest maxi dress hasn’t gotten any easier.

I found this gorgeous Diane Von Furstenberg silk maxi dress on www.net-a-porter.com, and it even comes with sleeves, but you do need to find some solution for the chest coverage which won’t be too hard. It’s so beautiful and EXPENSIVE ($895), maybe when my husband starts making millions of dollars, I will consider getting it on sale.

And then I found this cap sleeve floral maxi dress on www.behenhams.com for £35.00. It looks very modest from the picture, only problem is it’s an UK site, I don’t know if they would deliver to the US.

I did see a pink/violet zebra print maxi dress at H&M. It had cute flowy sleeves, but a deep V neck. I wanted to try it so bad, but didn’t because I had my son with me. And when I made a special trip there to try that dress the very next week, it was gone. I was so disappointed. It was pretty cheap too, around $35.

There are so many cute maxi dresses out there. I just wish they add some sleeves and rise neckline a bit higher, I just don’t want to have to layer things up to be modest in Vegas’ 100+ degrees hot summer.

Anyone have any ideas on where to find the cute and modest maxi dress? Help me!

Spring Essential – Boyfriend Tees

I know everyone says to wear tight shirts, because it flatters your figure. But after being pregnant for 9 months, and everything was so tight on my belly for so long, I really don’t want to feel like I’m about to explode again. And every time when I put on a tight tee shirt, it feels so tight on me like I’m pregnant again. Plus the hot weather in Vegas, I really don’t want to wear something that sticks on me so much.

I was on the hunt for a cute loose tee. Something breathy, relaxed and long. I found out that they are actually called the Boyfriend Tee. I found my first Boyfriend tee in Nordstrom’s BP department. It’s made by Frenchi, for $20. It comes in six different colors, and I got the white one. I’ll probably go back and get more when they go on sale.

I seriously love this cut so much. It looks slightly oversized on me, make me look like I just lost some weight, because it’s not hugging me so tight. I have to wear a tank top with it to avoid showing too much of my cleavage. I do wish they made the neck line just a little big higher.

I have been looking for a cute shirt to go with my Habitual faded blue skinny jeans that I bought from Haute Look. It just seemed nothing goes with these Jeans. I tried them on with all my shirts, something just looked wrong, even my last year’s favorite blouse that goes with so many Jeans. It just looked awkward somehow.

Until I bought this Boyfriend Tee. They are like a match made in heaven. Everything just seems so right. It’s nice and long, also hides my love handles quite well. Sorry about the squinting, I probably should have picked a better time of the day to take these photos.

I found more boyfriend tees at Forever 21 with an unbeatable price, $4.50. I bought one in bring yellow and one in red. The quality is not as nice as Frenchi, but for $4.50, I really don’t mind.

Modest Fashion Solution – Vintage Hem

I was talking to a couple of friends at church the other day about our new finds from recent shopping trips, and one of the girls started sharing about her problem with this cute pink Banana Republic dress.

Apparently, the hemline of this cute and elegant pink dress is just a little bit too short for our desire to be modest, and it just doesn’t go with a legging. Now she’s stuck with cute dress and doesn’t know what to do with it.

She thinks all the dresses in Banana Republic are just a little tiny bit too short. I agree, actually I think every store’s dresses are just a little tiny bit too short for our standard.

There are so many times I tried on cute dresses, and fall in love with them, but then have to leave them behind in the dressing room because the one-inch-too-short hemline. This just makes me so sad. I want to be able to wear what’s on the market.

Well, there actually is a solution to it. I don’t know if you have heard of Vintage Hem, it’s a slip you put under your skirt or dress that extends the hemline and also adds some trendy factors.

Spring Essential Piece – White Jeans

Spring is really here. Flowers are blooming, and trees are so green. Spring always makes me so excited, because it’s the beginning of another life cycle of plants, and that gives me hope.

Another great thing about spring is that I can start wearing my white jeans. They are so versatile that you can dress them up or dress them down. I would choose to wear white jeans over dark denim any days in spring and summer.

I know some people say white jeans are trashy, and trust me I have seen white jeans worn the trashy way all around Las Vegas, but you can certainly wear it classy too. In fact, I would definitely put white jeans into the timeless, classic and everyone-should-own-a-pair category.

Just make sure that you don’t wear them too tight, and also make sure that the fabric is not see through in any sense. We don’t want to look like this,

This is how I wear mine. Awake Couture blue tee shirt and the crisp white jeans complement each other so well, and with the care free jelly t-strap sandals, I think I have completed a cute outfit.

Only thing is that white clothes get dirty very easy, especially when you have an active little one like mine. Just wash them often and bleach them every now and then with your white sheets. You got to sacrifice a little for cute clothes. Trust me, it’s so worth it. White jeans brighten up your day like nothing else.

Every woman, young and old, love to feel beautiful. I think that beautiful means many different things. Sexy, cute, hot, gorgeous, and adorable. What do people mean when they say beautiful? That your face is very symmetrical, that you have the "girl next door" look or that you are preciously adorable? I have no idea where I would fall into this or if I could even pass for beautifull (lol) but one person who I think is so adorable is Selena Gomez.

Em, I know that you are into vintage stuff way more than I am. I came across this website called Yoox. Have you heard of them? They sell contemporary designer apparel/shoes along with vintage apparel. Name vintage brands are Valentino Miss, Christian Dior and way more. They are a little pricey but fairly cute for vintage.

Also, I've found THE LIST. Well, it's called "The Modest List". I've never heard of it until now. It's a website that is dedicated to finding anything modest. Modest clothes, modest wedding gowns, modest swimsuits. It just gives you the name of the website where you can go online to shop. That easy. There are definitely some websites on their list that I've never heard of. So check them out and see what you think.

Emily Jonas No Reservation Shoe Collection – Athletic

I got these slip-ons from Payless for $15. They are comfy and easy to put on. I used to wear them all the time until I found those babies below.

They are not as easy to put on, but incredibly comfortable and STYLISH. I didn’t know that they made sneakers this cute. But these Onitsuka Tiger Crosstrainers seriously go with so many things. They are usually priced at $79, but I got these ones again from Nordstrom Rack for under $30. What a deal!

I love these New Balance Running shoes, especially for the hot Vegas. The front part of the shoe are mesh which makes them very very breathable. You can seriously feel the air blowing onto your hot feet while you are running. I think I paid a lot for them. I bought these when I just moved to the states in Nordstrom before I discovered Nordstrom Rack. They were around $90.

Now you have seen all my shoes, and I would have to say that you have got to know me pretty well from my shoes. There’s nerdy side of me from those Crocs, and there’s a sweet side of me from the flats. I love being glamour and also love being active. 10 Years!! - Dream

10 years is a long time, but also went by so fast. I left my home country China 10 years ago, two months before I turned 17. I flew over the Indian ocean and landed at one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with its endless miles of white sand beach, I thought it was like a never ending sweet dream.

I started 11th grade in Kawana Waters High School in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Wanna see how spoiled I was? Well, see where my school is, and where the 70 mile long beach is. You get the idea. School finished at 2pm instead of 9pm in China, home work only took 20mins instead of 3 hours, the air was clean, the sky was blue and the water was crystal clear. I thought I was in Heaven.

The beach was so gorgeous, and there's no one there. You don't have to worry about finding a parking spot; it was so private. Here is picture of Mooloolaba Beach. I worked in a Chinese Restaurant just off the street. This is one of the most popular beach in Sunshine Coast, still very few people there.

Here is a little taste of what Sunshine Coast was like. It truly is a dream. Through the beautiful fuchsia colored flower crowned tropical bush, the bright sun light peek through at the end of the little path, and there is your white sand beach, so dreamy... so illusory, but so real at the same time. It takes your breath away.

I want to go back to this place so bad, and I dream about it all the time. I can't wait to show Steve and Tyler how beautiful this place is. I hope this day will come soon.

Emily Jonas No Reservation Shoe Collection Unveiled – Boots

These cheap Impo Stretch boots from DSW are unbelievably comfortable. Like their name, they are stretchy, like a glove over your feet. Down side is they are more like plastic, and your feet get really sweaty. I paid $25 for them.

I bought these Italian leather boots from a mall in China. They were very pricey for in China, around $140. The leather is very fine, and they were very comfortable. I’ve walked everywhere in these, and they’ve never failed me.

Everyone has a pair of tall plain black boots, and so do I. These Nine West boots were from Nordstrom Rack, and I believe they were on sale for around $50. They are simple and figure flattering.

My favorite boots are from again Nordstrom. No wonder they say your employees are always your most loyal customers, look how much stuff I buy from them, I should be rewarded with a medal. I think these Via Spiga were $230, but with the sale and my employee discount, I bought them for around $120. I love the gathering details; they make my legs look so lean and long. The leather is so soft and the heels are so strong, I love these babies.

These knee length suede boots were from a Shoe Salon in China. I loved its sleek lines and the cut-out details. When I got my pay check, I headed there the first thing. However the heels broke off only a couple of months later. I did get them glued back, but the balance was just off since then. I believe I paid around $100 for them.

I love Uggs. Thank you Gigi, my best friend from Australia! She got these for me when she came to visit me after I had my son. I always wanted to own a pair of Uggs, but didn’t want to pay so much for them, and they almost never go on sale. Apparently they are a lot cheaper in their motherland Australia. They are so soft inside, and toasty. They are my best friend for cold weather.

These were my pre-Uggs Uggs-want-to-be boots. We bought them on our honeymoon in Florida at Wilson’s Leathers for $39. I loved them before my Uggs days. Since I have owned these Uggs above, I have not even worn them once. Sorry, mate! You were great, but just not as great.

This last ones here look like boots when you wear Jeans with them, but they are actually slip-ons. I love them when I want to feel a little western-ish. I found them in Nordstrom Rack, might have been around $20.

Emily Jonas No Reservation Shoe Collection Unveiled – Pumps

I love pumps. They are sleek, sexy, and look put-together. Good pumps can definitely add confidence and power to you.

These black pumps are sure confidence busters for me. I bought these BCBGirls on sale at Nordstrom for around $40 with my employee discount, you can get the same ones at Piperlime for $90. They are so comfortable and fit very well, I could wear them and walk around all day. The style is so classic, I think everyone should own a pair.

I also got these brown Mary Jane pumps from Nordstrom. These Rebels patent pump seriously go with every outfit. I think they go best with leggings, skinny jeans and skirts. I paid around $30 with employee discount at Nordstrom’s junior shoe department. They are also surprisingly comfortable, I can definitely stand in these all day long too.

These Bakers shoes were very affordable and cute, but not comfortable at all. They don’t fit very well, and always keep falling off my feet. I don’t think Bakers make very good shoes, they look cute, but quality is pretty crappy. I think these were $30.

More from Nordstrom Rack. These purple slip-ons usually go for $110, I bought them for $12. They look cute with wide leg trousers.

These were my Chinese wedding ceremony shoes. In China, you wear red from head to toe for good luck on your wedding day. I think these were $50, I thought they were a lot of money for Chinese shoes, but I couldn’t find anything else in that very short period of time.

3. Fashion tennis shoes - When you are tired at the end of the day and you know that you won't be having a break from the kids anytime soon, put some cute tennis shoes on to be comfy. This way you will be able to get around rather than wishing you didn't wear your heels. I pair up my fashion tennis shoes with bootcut jeans, capris and some shorts. You have to be careful with shorts so that you don't look to dressed down. I don't like to wear my fashion tennis shoes with skinny jeans, that's what flats are for. My favorite brands that fall under this category are Diesel and Pumas hands down.

4. Flats - One pair would suffice. But if you have a shoe fetish than one won't do. I refuse to pay anything close to a hundred for flats. They are always cheaply made and don't cost much to make so why pay so much money for them. That's just me though.

5. Undershirt/Layer shirt - If you are LDS than you probably already know the brands that sell great shirts for layering. Shade, Layers Clothing, ModBe...hmmm, did I miss one? I actually am getting sick of wearing these so much so whenever I'm out I always have my eye out for a good undershirt. One with lace or design. This changes things up quite a bit and it's nice to have a change.

6. Cute workout Outfit - We all know that feeling good about ourselves comes from within, but why not look fashionable while working out? This gives me a reason to get up in the mornings because I know that I spent money on workout clothes so now I have to get my use out of them. Good one Melissa, you're a genius!

7. Designer Jeans - To be exact, no holes and maybe a darker wash. The cut doesn't matter, but length does. Be sure they are just the right length to wear with heals on date night. Please tell me you guys go on date nights, if not, get out there! This is something that everyone needs to be doing. 8. Jewelry - The only rule I have when it comes to jewelry is to not get too carried away. Jewelry is like make-up. Less is better. We all know that you own the cutest and newest jewelry out there just remember that you don't have to wear it all at one time. Trust me, it's better that way. You want people to be staring at your cute outfit and not at your distracting jewelry.

Who said that jewelry had to be limited to the body? I love these Tarina Tarantino bows.

9. Tights - You can get tights pretty much anywhere. Color tights are really in right now, I just don't know if I could pull them off. My favorites are ones with designs. Tiffany from I Am Style-Ish put together a nice outfit with the kind of tights I am talking about. See her look here.

10. Watch - I wear my watches like jewelry. A watch can be dressed up or dress down. Sometimes, it may be the only jewelry I wear. I'm obsessed with watches right now. Here are some that I adore.

Land's End Modest Swimsuits

I just received Land's End's catalog in the mail. I have no idea why I get it in the mail but I do. The whole catalog is swimwear. I must say that there are some cute modest ones in there. Right now they are having $10 off their "slender" suits, which is suppose to make you look a whole size smaller. Does anyone know if this really works?

I am unsuccessful on our new computer because I am trying to show you pictures of some of the ones I think are cute and it's not letting me do it. So if you want to look slimmer this summer go to Land's End to check out their "slimmer" swimsuits.

Is it easy to start a clothing line or something, because there are seriously so many brands out there I can't even keep track anymore. An online store that I often go check out due to their large selection and great sales is Revolve Clothing. If you are a big fan of designer jeans and well, basically anything designer, then you need to check this place out. Not to mention that their sale search engine is awesome. You can search a sale by the percentage it is discounted. Love it.

Outlet Steals

Before heading over to Nordstroms to do some shopping, you might want to check out your local outlet mall. Living in Vegas I am spoiled because we have 2 outlet malls within our city, then we have another one about 40 minutes outside of town, located in Primm, Nevada. The way our economy is right now everyone is and should be in a frugal state of mind. This doesn't mean that shopping needs to cease as we know it (especially if we want our economy to grow again).

A simple solution to our problem is to shop only good deals. This doesn't mean that what you see at an outlet store is a good deal just because it's in an outlet store. Know the brand you like, know the retail prices and then shop. This way you will know ahead of time what you are willing to pay for something and whether it is a steal.

For example, these Pumas I recently purchased at the Cabazon outlets were $25 and $34. Due to the lack of selling, Pumas was having an additional 40% off their shoes. The shoes were already marked down to "outlet" prices, then I got the additional 40% off. Great deal.

Another solution, look for "damaged" racks. Also at Cabazon, there was a Rock and Republic store. I was in heaven when I was in there. All jeans were pretty much marked 1/2 off retail price. Then I found "the" rack. I found these babies.

These jeans originally retail at $334. The tag price was $100 marked down from $200! I asked the sales woman what was wrong with these and she said that the only thing wrong with them was that the front button was missing. Duh, anyone can fix that. So of course I snatched them up (I was lucky they were in my size). I have to take a few other pairs of jeans to a tailor to get hemmed so I will just have them add a button on there for me. So easy and a simple solution to getting a better deal.

So if any of you live somewhat near an outlet mall, I would highly recommend going there first before shopping at retail prices.

Tidbits of well-being

Happy Friday everyone. My husband's dear old great grandfather, our kids' great great grandfather, finally passed on to be with his sweetheart. He died at the age of 102. At his funeral, there was a sheet of paper that said at the top "How to Happily Live a Hundred Years".

1. Health. Good health.

2. A comfortable place to live and enough money to live on (though one man's plenty is another man's poverty, and there is no definite amount of money which will meet the needs of all people).

3. Recognition and approval by one's neighbors and family and community. (We tend to approve ourselves when other people approve of us.)

4. Social participation - that is, taking part with other people in social and business and church and community activities. Unhappy old age really commences, I think, when a person is cut off from other persons. Make friends and keep them in person or by telephone.

Back to number one, Joe Thiriot said that this about Health:

Eat - Study a good book on nutrition and follow the instructions. Breakfast is GOLD Lunch is SILVER Dinner is LEAD
Choose extra vitamins with care. Observe the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom can be found in the LDS's Doctrine and Covenants.

Do: - keep your attitude as pleasant and chearful as much as possible.
- have something to do.
- have a hobby or two, something you really enjoy doing.
- learn to be satisfied when the situation can't be easily changed.
- keep on liking people even if their ways are different - maybe age.
- meet adversity valiantly. Enjoy life as you endure to the end.
- meet your everyday problems with decision - decide what you are going to do about it, do it, then quit thinking about it.
- maintain a god sense of humor. Laughter is the best medicine.

Don't look for signs of illness or it will come via the psychosomatic route. To keep well, do not retire too hard.

Sleep - determine how much sleep you need to keep fit. Get it daily.

Exercise: Physically - use every muscle or lose it.
Mentally - read, memorize, write, play games.
Spiritually - attend Church, teach a class, speak in church, Home Teach, read Church History, study the scriptures, pray.

And then at the bottom of the sheet it said that Joe wrote this probably when he was in his 90's. Another contributing factor to his long life (they think) was his daily breakfast: Buttermilk, a banana and protein powder.

Living modestly is a lifestyle not just fashion. Some things said on this sheet really hit me. I am always trying to learn and be a better person, but I sometimes forget to take care of myself. I really hope you all are living a happy and modest life.

Emily Jonas No Reservation Shoe Collection Unveiled – Sandals

Living in Las Vegas gives me the advantage of being able to wear sandals almost all year around. So I have pair after pair of sandals, please be patient with me.

I got these sweet little heels when I was in Malaysia back in 2004. They are from this store called Vincci, and everything was super cheap there, around $10 to $20. They were all super cute, and during the two days of my stay in Kuala Lumpur, I stocked up and bought 11 pairs of shoes from that same store.

They are not good quality shoes in any sense, and probably can only last you for a whole summer. And these heels are the only ones I still own. They are very summery, every time when I see these shoes, I think about candy, ice cream and the fans in the ice cream store.

I got these sandals in China last year on sale for $1.50. They are so comfortable, and so happy. They bring up my mood so easily with those tropical flowers.

These Ed Hardy flip flops are pricey, $34. They were one of my birthday presents from last year, and almost the only pair flip flops I wear after I got them. They are way more comfortable and has more support than my old navy ones, that’s for sure.

I can believe that I’m actually showing you guys these shoes. They are so beat-up. I got them from a boutique in L. A. for $40. They were my last year’s summer love; I could not be apart from them since the first time we met. I blogged about these Yellow Box shoes before, click here to read what I wrote.

I bought these white cut-outs sandals when I first started working at Nordstrom. I needed a pair walking shoes. These CIRCA Joan & David sandals are so comfortable and cute. I think I paid around $50 with my employee discount, not bad for the quality. (That pork foot belongs to my son Tyler, isn’t it cute?

I got these BCBG Jelly Sandals with Melissa when we were shopping in the outlet last year. They are adorable but dont offer support to your feet, so I would only wear them when I don’t have to walk for a long time. They were retailed for $28, we scored them for $15. I love how they look with white jeans.

Another pair of CIRCA Joan & David. I found them in my favorite store Nordstrom Rack. These wedges are extremely comfortable. I guess CIRCA just makes really comfy shoes. I think they were around $100, down to $30 or less. It has became one of my favorite shoes to wear.

I bought these Ralph Lauren Logo Flip Flops at one of the outlets back in Virginia. I love the vibrate color and they are very squishy. I believe they were on sale for $20.

Yes, I have a pair of dorky Crocs, and I love them. I always thought Crocs were so ugly, until the day I had to carry around a hug pregnant belly walking down Venice Beach in California on a hot summer day. Uncle Bob convinced me to try them on, and I never wanted to take them off the rest of my pregnancy. I wear them on walks, camping and going to China. I always tell my husband that Crocs saved the day.

I bought these Naturalizer wedge on Nordstrom.com, they were $60 down to $15. I love the fun color, it gives a pop in a plain outfit.

My wedding shoes were from China, and they had black heels, so I painted them white. I wanted something simple and elegant, they were perfect for my gown that I designed myself. I think I paid around $20.

One more pair of red polka dots shoes. These Linea Paolo ones remind me of the Minnie Mouse for some reason. Also from Nordstrom Rack, $120 down to $30.

I bought these silver T-strip shoes in China years ago. They are super uncomfortable, and I’m saving them for a dance party or something. I think they were around $20.

I think red is probably my favorite color. Here is another pair of red shoes. They were from a store called Witchery in Australia. I seriously don’t remember how much I paid for these, but I remember they were on sale and pretty cheap.

I wore them to a fashion expo in HK, with red belt, and red Furla purse. They hurt my feet so bad, definitely not going to do that again.

Lastly, I have two pairs of Old Navy flip flops. They are dirt cheap, so I keep a pair in my gym bag in case I need a shower there after work out, and keep in other pair in our rock pit back yard.

Twilight Fashion, Anyone?

Melissa got me hooked on Twilight last year. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down. One after another, I finished reading all four books of the sequel. All I could think about was Edward and Bella; I felt like I knew them in person, and I was there with them for each step they had taken.

I remember when my husband came home one day, I was so excited about my progress on the reading, I told him, “Baby! I am already on page 200!” My poor husband who has probably heard a million times about Twilight in the last week replied, “oh… is that why our house is such a mess.” I was hooked, who has the time to clean.

I did enjoy the movie last year, and my sweet husband came with us to the movie. All the teens were screaming when Edward appeared on the big screen. I guess everyone who has read the books have fallen in love with the characters and the story.

As you probably all know, Twilight movie just came out on DVD on the 21st. My co-writer Melissa already bought it on Blue Ray, and I can’t wait to watch it again too, to admire Edward’s flawless face.

I bet what you don’t know is Twilight Apparel was also launched on that day. Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz and Rachelle LeFevre showed up at Kitson for the release on Saturday. My lucky friend Amy who works for the company that makes these tees, who also makes Awake Couture got to be on site of the release. Here is a photo of her(back row right) and the crew. “Alice” looks just like herself.

These limited-edition tee shirts are not your shapeless, cheap cotton tee shirts with cheesy quotes or big prints of the characters. These are full of fashion. They are figure flattering tees with very hip designs and gem stone details. Check them out.

My husband’s grand mother just donated 100 pairs of shoes, and she still has about 200 pairs at home. I’m no where close to owning that many pairs of shoes, but I do have a good variety of different shoes I love and acquired over the years.

I decided to show you all, the new and the beat-up; the glamorous and the practical; the big bucks (to me anyway) and the dirt cheap. Each pair all represent a part of me, at different stage of my life, with different mood.

Today, I’m going to show you all my flats. I love flats, they are effortlessly chic. I have to say they are not always necessarily comfortable though, I would rather wear some of my heals over flats for comfort, but I like how flats look with certain things, also depends on my mood.

Dorothy’s glitter red shoes without heels. I bought them when I was in China pregnant. I had to to get some flats to walk around. They were comfy, and easy to balance in with my big belly. I think they were around $8.

I love the green on these flats. They are NOT comfortable, but I still wear them all the time because how cute they are. Steve’s Uncle’s wife got it for me on our shopping trip. I am so spoiled. I think these Steve Madden flats were on sale for a little over $20.

I love the string detail in the back of these polka dot satin flats. They so uncomfortable though, maybe because I got fat feet. They are so adorable, and change my mood instantly. I save them for special occasions. I got these Sam Edelman flats from Nordstrom Rack for 20 something dollars, they usually go for $90.

These white ballet flats very beat-up already. They are very tight around the opening, and the back seam is already open. It’s probably because I step on the back all the time to avoid the leather rubbing against my skin. My pig feet and ballet flats just do go very well. These N.Y.L.A. shoes were retail around $60, I got them around $12.

These Roxy slipperish flats are my winter flip flops. They are easy to slip on and so fury and cozy inside. Great for running errands. I got them in an outlet for $34.

I love finding good deals on shoes. Having a variety of colors and styles for shoes definitely helps me to keep my outfits interesting. I have a lot more to share, so don’t forget to come back to check it out.

My Recent Bargain Finds – 2

Hi guys, there were a few pieces left out from my last bargain finds post during my memory loss for being a mom. Do you moms out there suffer from the same disorder? Anyway, here are my bargain finds.

Who says modesty has to be boring? I found this cute ruffle neck blouse at Target on sale for $8. How can you miss that? I love the contrast of the rusty zipper and the feminine fabric texture. Very modest, and very chic.

To dress it down, wear with a pair of cute jeans for a date night or a party. (Sorry about how blurry the photo turned out, I’m having problems with the focus for self portrait, anyone have any suggestions?)

To dress it up, tuck it in a pencil skirt with some heels for church or work. (I had to put a bird there to hide Tyler’s training pants, yes, I’m doing EC with him. And hope he will be potty trained before my parents get here, so they won’t be on my case everyday. Babies are potty trained as infants in China. My parents were shocked when I told them Tyler who is 16 months old, and still in diapers.)

As you all probably know I love vintage looking stuff, I found this cute gold heart ring from Forever21 for $5. I love it so much, and I wear it all the time.

And I found this set of charms at Nordstrom B.P. Department on sale for $2.80, just add my own chain for no extra cost. A new necklace for under $3.

Fancy Casual

By definition, a "fancy casual" is a mix of dressy and not so dressy. For example, I would say that the most popular "fancy casual" look would be a pair of dark (no holes) denim jeans paired with some stilettos. Or maybe a pair of knee length (fitted not baggy) shorts paired with some wedge sandals.

I'm afraid to admit that living in Vegas during the summer brings out the worst of some. That's right, the worst. What I mean is that the tourists think it's okay to wear a pair of short, very short stretchy shorts. They pair them with a spaghetti strap tank top and maybe some old Birkenstock sandals. Gross.

As I drove to Town Square mall today, I came upon some tourist pedestrians whom were fitting this exact stereotype. When are they going to get a clue?! Being a mom, I admit that I purposely chose the less fancy clothes because I know that I am going to be filthy by the end of the day and don't want to get my nice stuff ruined (you know, maybe save them for date night). However, there is a line to be drawn for not getting too sloppy and I am drawing it now.

Rule #1: Do not wear a spaghetti strap tank top without layering it with something. Not only is this immodest, it's just not cute people. There is a reason that cardigans were made and companies like Layers, Shade and ModBe are created. Gap, Ann Taylor, J.Crew and even Old Navy carry a large variety of cardigans that are easily affordable.

Rule #2: Toss your really old sandals. If you've bought some last summer and they are still in great condition, then keep them. But if you're holding on to your 5 year old sandals that are hanging on by a thread, get rid of them. There are awesome deals right now for new shoes. I bought these flip-flops yesterday from Ross for $5.99.

Rule #3: Try wearing a new color every once in a while. This cardigan is probably 4 years old. I bought this at a Nordstrom Rack. I've kept it in great shape and can still wear it today.

Rule #4: Be "fancy casual". Confusing. For you moms and busy workers out there, listen up. When the time permits, wear stilettos or wedges with your jeans rather than the flip flops you wear every single day. If you are not wearing fancy pants then maybe pair it with a nicer blouse rather then your old t-shirt. If you are not wearing a fancy blouse or fancy pants, then add some accessories. Maybe even match your accessories and shoes if you are wearing all black. If you are just having a bad day in general, at least have make-up on, hair done and wear perfume. It will help, trust me! Never wear all bland stuff together because ultimately it will lead to the fact that you look like you never really got ready for the day at all. Trust me on this one too! hehe

I love the Spring. The cold, dark winter starts to go away, "Spring-forward" time change, longer days, and pretty, soft colors like pastels. If you haven't noticed, this year grey and yellow are in. But we can't forget all the other colors like a soft lime green, bubble gum pink and sky blue.

Earnest Sewn Jeans Sale

So I've finally been window shopping online again after a very long break. I found these Earnest Sewn jeans (below) at Asos.com on sale for $103.22. Emily, I know that you are obsessed with these jeans, now is your chance to get them!

Another thing to look out for when you are shopping are "high rise" bottoms and skirts. These are very in right now and very modest (no more bending over and seeing the "goods"). Here are a few skirts I found at Asos.com as well.

There are so many bargains right now, you just have to look. Sort of a right place at the right time deal, like when Emily lucked out with those awesome finds at Nordstrom Rack! That is why we try to have posts like these. To let you know about the sales we think are worth checking out. :)

In this Economy, You Need to Accessorize!

Bad economy, less spending money, but it doesn't change my desire to look cute and interesting. Nordstrom Rack is over flowing with cute stuff that Nordstrom couldn't sell in their full line stores; online sample sales are releasing steal deals on designer stuff.

There are just great deals everywhere you look, but it does change the fact that you don't have any money to spend. It stinks, but it's not the end of the day. To look updated, just make sure you take the time accessorize your outfit.

I know it's tempting to leave the house with the basics, but if you pick a few accessories to work into the basics, you will definitely look more put together.

Here, I'm wearing my almost 8-year old black cardigan my best friend Gigi gave to me for my 19th birthday. And my beat-up favorite Lucky Jeans (it's naturally distressed, definitely shows some age there).

For a pop of color, I threw on a black and red plaid scarf and my red Paolo heels, and of course the finish touch of my brand new sun glasses. Just that simple, I transformed my dusty old clothes into something interesting to look at.

So ladies, let's accessories ourselves to look trendy and chic with less money. Forever21, H&M and Nordstrom B.P. Department are always where I start to look. Remember, a little goes a long way.

I love bargains! In fact, I refuse to buy things at full price. Knowing everything will all go on sale at some point, and still purchasing them at full prices just breaks my heart.

I'm always on the hunt for cute, modest and affordable fashion pieces. Here are some stuff I found recently, cute, modest, CHEAP, and yet IN.

Nude-hued puff sleeve blouse from Great Plain. Original $68 (I think, not 100% sure), I bought it for $8 from Nordstrom Rack. The neckline is just a little bit low when I bend down, so I wear a tank top underneath it, but I love the length and the loss fit.

I have been wanting to get aviator sun glasses for a couple of years now, but didn't want to spend 300 bucks on it, nor get a crappy street booth knock-off. So I waited and waited. The more time passe, the more I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it, as they are probably going out of style, but I still really really want them.

I was so lucky to spot these babies at Nordstrom Rack. They are Armani Exchange, and was only $24.95. They are not to narrow at the bottom, which suites my face perfectly. I love them so much, it brings any outfit to life.

Finally, my $5 bracelet from Forever 21, you just can't beat that place. If you are looking for fun trendy jewelry, and don't want to invest a lot of money, that's the place to go.

I love the boho and exotic look of the bracelet, it goes with a lot of my outfits. It's very me!
